Thonham was the capital of The Falderian Empire before the cession of Eschenfeld and The Eroan Wilds during The Race Wars. Thonham was once a megacity with a population in the millions, with races of all kinds.

Thonham had strong naval presence and protection compared with other cities in Falderia. The Falderian Empire’s naval fleet’s home port was the then Thonham Gulf. After the Scorched Earth and The Race Wars, much of the Thonham Gulf had dried up into a dry salt bed, with only a few feet of water still flowing into the deepest parts of the Gulf. Shortly after The Race Wars, many scavengers could be found amongst the wrecks of The Falderian Empire ships, extracting weapons, ammo and personal effects for resale further up the continent.

After The Race Wars, the terrain of Thonham changed significantly, giving rise to the Whistling Towers of Sal’Taq, The Hjolrak Gorge and a number of other unique geological features in The Old Thonham Wasteland.

The Fall of Thonham

During The Race Wars, the commanders of what was soon to be Eschenfeld ordered an incomprehensible strike. A small conflagration of elite dwarven spell casters did the unthinkable, striking Thonham with a spell of colossal proportions, coined Scorched Earth. Less than 24 hours after the unknown spell was cast, Thonham’s living population had halved. The soil had turned dry and arid, the crops, trees and algae that once bloomed throughout the lands of Thonham had turned brown or died. Fountains that used to show The Falderian Empire’s prosperity had stopped flowing, and what remained of the animals, domesticated or wildlife, ran free or thrashed at their bounds. Eschenfeld’s strike was a decisive one, effecting every living thing in Thonham, dwarves included. Seven days after the strike, Thonham was an empty husk of its former self, inhabited only by those seeking to loot and pillage its desecrated remains.
