The Stormguard are a patrilineal volunteer military force in which the oldest son of a Stormguard is drafted to fill the father’s place upon his death. This creates a strong bond and sense of loyalty amongst Stormguard.
The Stormguard are named after the storms that frequently occur in the mountains surrounding the Feyleth Tropic, a lush and fertile region where Karstenfey is located. The Stormguard are trained to endure and fight in harsh weather conditions, as well as to defend the city from any external threat, such as invaders, raiders, or creatures. The Stormguard are equipped with weapons and armor emblazoned with The Order of the White Robe symbol in Thonham white stone. The white stone symbolizes the purity and honor of the Stormguard.
The Stormguard receive the last name “Stormguard” to signify their role and identity. The Stormguard have a hierarchical structure, where the highest rank is the Marshal, who is elected by the Stormguard and approved by the senate. The Marshal is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of the Stormguard, as well as for maintaining a good relationship with the other branches of the Karstenfey government. The Marshal is assisted by the Wardens, who lead the different units of the Stormguard, such as the Scouts, the Archers, the Cavalry, the spellcasters, and the Infantry. The Wardens are appointed by the Marshal and report to him. The lowest rank is the Cadet, who is a new member of the Stormguard and undergoes rigorous training and evaluation before becoming a full-fledged Stormguard.
