The Bersoni Monks are a religious group based in The Cardlemounts.
The Bastille of Balaphai, the cultural and governmental centre of the Bersoni Monks rests upon the side of Mount Erania. It is a medium sized stone and mortar structure with three lookout towers. It sits slightly set into the mountain in a large opening. For the uninitiated, there appears to be no entrance, and the cliff faces offer no hold to climb.
From birth, Bersoni Monks are required to practice devout faith to their rituals, accepting no deviation in timing or accuracy. The Bersoni Monks do not believe in a god, but instead in the transcendence, miracles and early teachings of Balaphai. Their rituals are intended to maintain Balaphai’s transcendence to a greater plane. Failure to maintain their rituals is said to bring the end of all things and the return of Balaphai.
Although rare, some outsiders join the ranks of the Bersoni Monks particularly during low fertility rate periods.
It is unheard of for Bersoni Monks to leave The Bastille of Balaphai or the faith, except for Alorin of Lethysia.
