Scorched Earth is an unknown spell named after the very real war tactic. The spell is named such in respect of the way the The Old Thonham Wasteland remains even centuries later.

In recent years, it is suspected that the spell removed a large percentage of water from the target area. This in turn caused many to die, ecosystems to destabilize, and farms to wither. It is unknown as to why the white stone of Thonham also withered during the attack. Researchers have been unable to perform tests or analysis on the white stone as the source was destroyed, and Karstenfey refuses to provide any of it’s limited supply. There are two schools of thought on the matter, the first of which proposes that the spell additionally targeted the common building material of their target, and the other which proposes that the white stone’s strength comes from it’s binding with water.

Some work has been completed to reconstruct the spell. The first three runes have been identified, and through interrogations during The Thonham Accords a requirement of 9 spell casters has also been identified.
The remaining runes, vocal components and sacrificial components has not been identified, but it has been suggested that the spell likely has a large sacrificial component.
